So Much to Love about West Meadowlark Park

Today I chose to feature a community that I know is a great family community. West Meadowlark Park is where my parents bought their first home (and still live today), where my sister and I grew up, went to school, played in the parks, used the amenities and have so many great memories. West Meadowlark Park is truly a family community. There are so many schools and parks, and family-friendly activities and events held year-round that living there just simply feels like home.

West Meadowlark Park is a mature community, with mostly detached single-family homes on large lots, with big backyards for families to enjoy. The houses are older, but appear mostly well maintained with many of them receiving awards for communities in bloom in the spring and summer. Some of the older homes have been torn down and replaced with infill properties, which adds a bit of sparkle to the area. The community is close and the older residents remember what it was like to watch the community grow and thrive into the awesome community it is today.

I have spent time knocking on doors and sharing market information on the community with friends of my family, parents of children I grew up with, teachers who helped form who I am today and new community members who are falling in love with the community the way our family did. We have had discussions about the changes the community has seen over the years, the Valley Line West LRT expansion, and the expansion of St. Francis Xavier High School from an average High School into a Sports Complex that the whole community can enjoy. We have spoken about Pa Peterson's Ice Cream located just North of 95th Avenue and just west of 163 Street, and the many memories we shared as young children, and teenagers and how it was saved from closing by the community coming together to keep our local Ice Cream Spot open. We reminisce about shopping for Halloween Costumes at Value Village which is now the site of Rexall Pharmacy, and the small family-owned pharmacy that sat on the corner of 87Ave and 165 Street where Esso now stands.

Many shared memories of sledding at Jasper Place Bowl (the Football Field behind Jasper Place High School) in the winter and enjoying High School Football Games in the fall. Spending endless hours at the Jasper Place Pool (which has been upgraded to a bigger, better facility), and now known as Johnny Bright Sports Complex. We watched our brothers, sons and friends grow from small Timbits hockey players barely knowing how to skate, to some of the bigger NHL names the league will ever see; and it all took place at Jasper Place Arena which is located on 92 Ave and 163 Street.

Schools were always close to home (Public and Catholic), with three elementary schools, 3 Jr. Hchools and 2 High Schools within walking distance of the community. Some of my best memories were walking to and from school with my friends, every school I had was within walking distance; even on those cold winter days. There was always more than one playground to play at, and riding our bikes to the local macs store for Slurpees in the summer was always a regular occurrence.

You can often see the many Fireworks displays put on throughout the year as the West Meadowlark Community League partners with the neighbouring community the Glenwood Community League to put on amazing shows of sparking lights numerous times during the year with Community League Day, Family Day and Canada Day being three of the best.

I'm sure that a lot of people have a lot of great memories about where they grew up, but as I'm beginning my career in Real Estate I wanted to start working in a community that I can personally say is a great place to grow up, raise a family or retire. West Meadowlark Park has a real sense of community, and I wouldn't want to have grown up anywhere else.

If you are thinking of buying or selling in the area, or you would like information on any other communities in the city I'd love the opportunity to discuss your Real Estate needs with you. Please call, text or email me any time.
